Beth Young practices in the areas of general civil litigation and business law. Beth focuses primarily on business and commercial litigation, and provides general counsel to businesses on a wide variety of matters. Beth has extensive experience as a trial lawyer, litigating cases in a wide variety of subject areas in federal and state courts. Her representation of businesses and individuals has included such matters as partnership and shareholder disputes, business torts and unfair competition claims, commercial litigation, class actions, real estate disputes, products liability and environmental litigation.
Beth also provides general advice and counsel to businesses, including choice of entity and corporate formation, franchising and licensing, asset purchase and sale agreements, contract negotiation and drafting, non-disclosure and non-competition agreements, and employment policies and procedures.
In 1999, at 28 years of age, Beth was one of the youngest lawyers ever to argue a case before the United States Supreme Court after she was asked by the Chief Judge of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals to take on a pro-bono prisoner civil rights case (Garner v. Jones, 529 U.S. 244 (2000)). In 2006, Beth was selected as one of Georgia’s Super Lawyers’ Rising Stars, a designation of Georgia’s top up-and-coming attorneys under 40 years of age.
Beth graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia. While at the University of Georgia School of Law, Beth was an award-winning competitor for the Georgia Moot Court team. She was selected Best Oral Advocate at the Georgia Intrastate Moot Court competition in 1994 and was winner of the Hulsey-Kimbrell Moot Court Competition in 1995.
Prior to joining THP, Beth operated a solo practice in Decatur, which she founded in 2001. Before opening her own practice, Beth was an associate with Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy LLP (now Bryan Cave LLP) (Atlanta, 1998-2001), handling commercial, environmental, and class action litigation; an associate for Goodman, McGuffey, Aust and Lindsey, LLP (Atlanta, 1996-1998), an insurance defense firm, managing a large volume of litigation cases; and an associate for Mayer & Beal (Atlanta, 1995-96), litigating cases involving business disputes and securities fraud claims.
Beth has two children and volunteers her time at Clairemont Elementary School and Holy Trinity Parish Episcopal Church. She is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Holy Trinity Parish Preschool. In her spare time, Beth enjoys cycling, writing fiction and nonfiction, photography, and travel.
