Catherine Powell practices in the area of commercial real
estate, finance and general corporate law. Catherine’s
practice includes the representation of major banking organizations,
Fortune 500 credit corporations, various national and regional
developers and landlords, and a variety of entrepreneurs.
Catherine routinely handles multi-million dollar, complex
loan, acquisition and lease transactions.
Catherine’s
lending work involves loans throughout the United States,
all of which are secured by commercial real estate and various
other assets. Catherine is experienced in drafting and negotiating
documentation for complex loan transactions including multi-party
credit agreements and tri-party agreements, and documentation
involving major landlords.
Catherine
also works with developers and landlords in connection with
acquisitions, developments, divestitures and lease transactions.
This area of her practice involves drafting and negotiating
purchase contracts and conveyance documents and reviewing
the assets to be acquired as part of the due diligence team.
Her practice also includes the representation of a number
of landlords in connection with the drafting and negotiating
of complex lease agreements with major corporation tenants,
including several Fortune 500 corporations.
Catherine
also represents entrepreneurs in a variety of enterprises
with the initial formation of their business entity, the
leasing or acquisition of their office space or building,
and the continued advice necessary to help their company
grow and develop into a thriving business.
After
graduating from Vanderbilt University, Catherine worked
as an Assistance Vice President with First Atlanta Bank
(Atlanta) and left after 4 years to attend Emory Law School.
Prior
to becoming a partner with Tatum Levine & Powell, Catherine
was a commercial real estate associate with King & Spalding
(Summer 1988, 1989-1994) and with Hunton & Williams
(1994-1996).
Catherine
is an Adjunct Professor at Emory Law School. She teaches
a class entitled Deal Skills and Negotiations which is a
practical “real life” course designed to ready
law students for the actual practice of law. She is also
on the Boards of the Florence McDonnell Spiritual Counseling
Center and The Transition House, Inc. She has volunteered
at the Children’s Hospital-Egleston Campus in Atlanta
for over 17 years, chaired a variety of community hospital
groups and functions, and is a committed volunteer at her
children’s schools. She is also a member of the Lullwater
Garden Club. Catherine belongs to All Saints Episcopal Church.
Catherine
is married and has three children. In her spare time, Catherine
enjoys overseas travel and reading.
