Katie Long primarily practices in the area of general business
and corporate law. She provides legal representation and
advice to individual clients and businesses of all sizes
on general business matters and transactions, such as entity
formation and organization, commercial contracts, employment
agreements, operational issues, asset purchases and sales,
and business succession. Katie also works on matters pertaining
to insurance coverage, including analysis of insurance programs,
claim filing, resolution of disputes and settlement negotiation.
In addition, Katie also serves as an arbitrator in business
disputes.
After
graduating from the University of Virginia, Katie worked
as a journalist for the Marietta Daily Journal (1986-1987)
and for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (1987-1992), where
she earned several awards. While at Boston University School
of Law, Katie served as an editor of the Boston University
Law Review. Following law school, Katie clerked on the U.S.
Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit for Judge Francis
D. Murnaghan, Jr. (Baltimore, 1995-1996).
Prior
to becoming a partner with Tatum Levine & Powell, Katie
worked as a solo practitioner (Atlanta, 2003-2005) and as
an associate in the criminal, litigation and insurance coverage
groups of Covington & Burling (Washington D.C., 1996-2003).
During her time with Covington & Burling, Katie also
worked as part of a pro bono team providing legal representation
to death row inmates and served in the Neighborhood Legal
Services Program providing legal services to indigent residents
of the District of Columbia.
Katie
and her husband have one child. In her spare time, Katie
enjoys running, reading, playing tennis and gardening. She
serves as the current Chair of the Board of Directors of
Kate’s Club, a local non-profit organization dedicated
to helping children and teens who have lost a family member.
